However, it needn’t be.

We are all too often made aware by the press of discrimination in recruitment; whether that be down to gender (as discussed in a recent article here) or race, as was highlighted in the recent 2009 IRS survey monitoring equality and diversity in recruitment. When it comes to ageism in the recruitment process, the topic seems to lack the sensationalist appeal favoured by the media. Wouldn’t it be nice to think in these modern times that gender is no longer an issue when looking to get into the majority of professions?

Women have proven themselves to be just as competent, intelligent and organised as their male counterparts and the career progression of many notable females does not seem to have been limited by their sex- Margaret Thatcher, Oprah Winfrey, JK Rowling, I could go on. Plus, there is still so much discovery and research to be done into both existing and emerging ailments that the industry has a solid future and offers employees experience at the very cutting edge of scientific development.
